Map: Day 22
We stayed at the Santa Clara albergue last night in Bercianos and while there was no dinner, there was quite the breakfast spread and I enjoyed it very much! And on the way out, Rosa gave everyone a hug. For any future pilgrims, I definitely recommend this albergue!
The day wasn’t quite as “bad” as the one a few days ago but it also wasn’t one of the most scenic. We stopped in El Burgo Ranero for a band-aid change for Heather and saw the cranes and their huge nests on top of the church….pretty amazing! Then we continued on a 12.7 km stretch of no towns and only picnic areas. We had a long lunch in Reliegos and then the homestretch towards Mansilla de las Mulas.
It was a lazy afternoon and then another pilgrim menu dinner. I wasn’t impressed with the spaghetti. It tasted like Chef Boyardee. But I did enjoy the ice cream. Eating lots of ice cream on this trip. And now it’s about bedtime but the sleeping area is unusually empty for this hour. I think everyone is downstairs watching the Mexico Brazil football game.
They say the first third of the trip is about the body, the second third is about the mind and the final third is about the spirit. We’re on the second third and I still feel like it’s about the body. It’s amazing how tired and sore your feet can get. And I don’t have any blisters so I can’t complain too much.
Buen Camino!
